Jamie is the owner of The Pilates Barre AZ and has been teaching Pilates since 2006. She has been working in the health and wellness field since 1991 when she started teaching aerobics while serving in the U.S. Air Force. After the birth of her second daughter she was invited to demo the new reformers at the YMCA where she was teaching. It was love at first sight and she immediately began pursuing her training through Balanced Body University. Prior to discovering Pilates, she spent 13 years teaching Group Fitness for Maricopa Community College, Valley of the Sun YMCA, and the Phoenix Fire Department.
Jamie also holds a Health Science degree and is license as Radiologic Technologist. Her ability to visualize the body from the inside allows her to truly understand how beneficial Pilates is from the inside out.
Jamie wanted a way to blend her knowledge of the human body with her contemporary approach to Pilates. She also wanted to create a friendly, community studio where people would feel welcome, encouraged and look forward to being active. The Pilates Barre AZ was the perfect opportunity to do just that! Jamie and her husband Dave (whom she met while teaching a group fitness class) have 2 daughters and the studio is truly a family business. Her family can often be found in the studio helping out or participating in a class. They live in Moon Valley and are passionate about being part of the community both as business owners and neighbors.
When Jamie is not teaching Pilates she enjoys being with her family, practicing yoga and being a Pilates student. There are very few Pilates exercises that she does not like but if pushed to choose a favorite, feet in straps always feels amazing!
Nicole a native of Phoenix, AZ who is a wife, mother, HR professional and Pilates enthusiast! She gained her BA in Communications from Arizona State University which has served her well in her professional life, especially when it comes to effective communication, relationship building, collaboration and speaking with intention.
By nature, Nicole loves to help others, hence the career in Human Resources, however, when she attended her first Reformer class it was love at first teaser. She practiced Pilates for two years until she made the unanticipated decision to attend the Club Pilates teacher training program so that she could become a certified Pilates instructor – she felt there was no better way she’d rather spend her time than to assist others in discovering their own passion for Pilates.
When asked what she favors most about Pilates, she responded, “In a world full of uncertainties, I have found many certainties in Pilates. For me, it is certain that Pilates strengthens my body in ways it hasn’t been strengthened before, assists me in completing activities I enjoy more freely, provides me a sense of calm, connection and focus that I’ve been able to translate into all facets of my life, and lastly, each time I practice, I’m certain I will have a complete hour of enjoyment!”
Nicole’s fascination with physical fitness began early in life, participating mostly in dance and basketball. She completed several fitness and nutrition classes during her college career which she feels gave her a great understanding for why Pilates is so important for the body and mind. She looks forward to continuously learning and passing her learnings on to others.
Melissa was born and raised in Los Angeles. She started dancing at the age of 3, and by middle school, Melissa was training at the prestigious Debbie Allen Dance Academy, and later graduated from The University of Arizona’s elite dance program with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Post college, Melissa got her certification in Barre under the Pilates guru Courtney Miller, and eventually planted her roots down in the Valley of the Sun. She began her Pilates training in 2012 and is truly an ambassador for the method and all of it’s incredible benefits, as she maintains a regular Pilates practice on her own. Melissa’s teaching style could be described as having so much fun, you didn’t even realize how hard you were working. She helps you nurture your mind/body connection and honors the greatest gift you can give yourself: self care.
